The course is aimed at providing front line social workers and managers who work with children and families affected by personality disorders in adults and young people. The course will explore different types of personality disorders, how they impacts on parents, and on children’s development and professionals. The course will support practitioners in developing effective skills in assessment and effective interventions for parents and children affected by personality disorders .
Learning Objectives:
• Identify the prevalence, nature and presentations of the most common types of personality disorders in DSMV and ICD10 which effects on adults and parents.
• Distinguish between cases where there is a formal diagnosis of personality disorder or where there are personality traits or other unresolved traumas which can affect parents, carers and children
• Identify the types of risks and impulsive behaviours presented by adults diagnosed with personality disorders
• Understand the role and impact of drugs and alcohol on presentation of personality disorders and other co-occurring disorders
• Understand the impact of parents with personality disorders on children’s development and parent –child relationships
• Examine the impact of gender and cultural differences on between men and women who are diagnosed with personality disorders, and the impact on parenting
• Exploring holistic THRIVE model of understanding and engaging with adults living with personality disorders
• Develop an understanding of the impact of personality disorder in relation to managing risk of harm to parents and children .
• Explore the dynamics which can affect professionals working with parents living with personality disorders
• Examining the effectiveness of clinical, social and "therapeutic" interventions for parents and children effected by personality disorders .
