Neglect is a key feature in many families who safeguarding professionals work with and yet it is hard for professionals who are involved to create successful interventions to be analytical about neglect and challenge professional thinking about neglect.

Research shows us that traumatic childhood experiences can have a profound impact on many different areas of functioning attachment, biological, sensory, physiology, social, emotional and psychological. Children of prisoners are 3 times more likely to have mental health issues and boys with a father in prison are twice a likely to offend (CREST 2019)

This training will raise your awareness of the needs of children and young people and their families impacted by a family member in prison.

If we are to best meet the needs of young people and minimise the risk of further trauma, a thorough understanding
of the benefits of a positive prison response to families is required.

This course will: Develop an understanding of the impact of parental offending on childhood trauma
Provide a forum to develop skills and nurture children and young people who feel ashamed, have to keep secrets may be experiencing financial difficulties and emotional distress. This course will provide attendees with access to local resources to support children and families with a family member in prison.

This is a one-day interactive workshop for Childrens and Adults Local Authority Social Care Staff as well as staff working with vulnerable Adults and Children in partner agencies. It is aimed at supporting the development of trauma-informed practice through increasing understanding of the prevalence, presentations and impacts of trauma, increasing understanding of trauma-informed approaches and exploring their application in practice.

Domestic abuse is any type of controlling, bullying, threatening or violent behaviour between people in a relationship. It isn’t just physical violence; domestic abuse includes any emotional, physical, sexual, economic / financial or psychological abuse. This course is intended to enable practitioners to develop informed and responsive interventions that support victims and prevent repeated abuse.

• To explore the complexities and dynamics of abusive relationships and it’s impact on victims
• To consider the cycle of abuse, a ‘victim’s journey’ and the reasons why victims stay in abusive relationships
