Research shows us that traumatic childhood experiences can have a profound impact on many different areas of functioning attachment, biological, sensory, physiology, social, emotional and psychological. Children of prisoners are 3 times more likely to have mental health issues and boys with a father in prison are twice a likely to offend (CREST 2019)
This training will raise your awareness of the needs of children and young people and their families impacted by a family member in prison.
If we are to best meet the needs of young people and minimise the risk of further trauma, a thorough understanding
of the benefits of a positive prison response to families is required.
This course will: Develop an understanding of the impact of parental offending on childhood trauma
Provide a forum to develop skills and nurture children and young people who feel ashamed, have to keep secrets may be experiencing financial difficulties and emotional distress. This course will provide attendees with access to local resources to support children and families with a family member in prison.
Corona Kids - is working in partnership with Wandsworthj schools and provide session in schools for children and enable schools to be supportive to children and thier families experinceing the impact of a relative in prson.
