Event description
This day one will focus on identification, there is a level two course that will focus on intervention. The training days aim to equip professionals with the information, skills and confidence to be able to identify young people at risk of and experiencing sexual exploitation and understand how to safeguard them effectively.
Training objectives
Identification and intervention provides an opportunity for participants to explore their own attitudes and values, to develop deeper understanding of the issues for young people and professionals, to identify good practice and to gain the support they need to develop their professional practice and ensure safe and proactive referrals and interventions are made. Joining requirements All professionals requesting a space on this training are required to provide evidence that they have completed mandatory e-learning on CSE and acessed the MARVE questionnaire and video resporce before their place will be accepted. To raise awareness of sexual exploitation so that professionals can facilitate constructive discussion of the issues, identify at risk young people and understand how to make appropriate and effective referrals locally.
Learning outcomes
• To identify risk and vulnerability factors in relation to CSE and missing • To understand where CSE /missing fits in the broader context of child exploitation
• To gain increased understanding of expected childhood development in contrast to concerning or harmful sexual behaviour
• To gain a better understanding of services in Wandsworth for young people where there are concerns about vulnerability to exploitation or known concerns regarding CSE or going missing, and how to access these.
• Participants will be able to identify young people who may be at risk of exploitation
• Participants will feel more confident responding to these concerns including making relevant referrals
• Participants will be able to create a safe space to explore and begin to mitigate risk with young people
• Participants will feel more confident undertaking safety planning with young people and their networks
